वर्तमान में सऊदी अरब कच्चे तेल का सर्वाधिक उत्पादन करता है। वेनेज़ुएला में खनिज तेल का सबसे ज्यादा भंडार संचित है। खनिज तेल का प्रथम कुआ 1859 ईस्वी में संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में खोदा गया था।

विश्व में पवन ऊर्जा का सबसे ज्यादा उत्पादन संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका करता है। विश्व में पेट्रोलियम का सबसे बड़ा आयातक देश संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका है।

विश्व की सबसे बड़ी कोयले की खान बाकीखान जिंबांबे में स्थित है। कोयला अवसादी चट्टानों में पाया जाता है। पर्यावरण के अनुकूल होते हुए भी जल विद्युत को श्वेत कोयला के नाम से जाना जाता है।

एंथ्रेसाइट कोयले में कार्बन की मात्रा 90% होती है। बिटू मिनिस कोयले का उत्पादन विश्व में कोयले के कुल उत्पाद का 80% होता है। चेन्नई के निकट कलपक्कम में नाभिकीय ऊर्जा संयंत्र की स्थापना की गई है।
