भारत में सर्वोत्तम किस्म का संगमरमर मकराना से प्राप्त होता है। कायांतरित शैली का जन्म आग्नेय व अवसादी शैलों से हुआ है।रूपांतरित चट्टान का उदाहरण स्लेट है। महाद्वीपों का निर्माण ग्रेनाइट की चट्टानों से हुआ है।

 मालवा के पठार का सबसे बड़ा नगर इंदौर है ग्रेट डिवाइडिंग ऑस्ट्रेलिया में अवस्थित है। चट्टाने शैल प्राणियों के खोल -कवच और अवस्थित कंकाल -चुना प्रस्तर लाइमस्टोन से बने हुए हैं।

 ग्रेनाइट आग्नेय शैल है। नीस और शिष्ट कायांतरित शैल है। शैल का कायांतरित स्टेल में होता है। संगमरमर भी कायांतरित चट्टान है। कोयला परतदार चट्टान में पाया जाता है। चट्टानों की कठोरता तप्त स्थल पश्चिमी घाट को कहा जाता है। 

विश्व की सबसे प्राचीन चट्टान आग्नेय चट्टान है। आग्नेय चट्टाने गर्म लावा के ठंडे होने पर बनती हैं। रांची शहर छोटा नागपुर के पठार पर स्थित है। महासागरों का निर्माण बेसाल्टिक चट्टानों से हुआ है। रूपांतरित चट्टानों की उत्पत्ति आग्नेय तथा तलहटी दोनों चट्टानों से होती है। बलुआ पत्थर एक परतदार चट्टान है क्योंकि वह पानी के नीचे बनती है।
